I said ‘test’ it since you do not want to set on this task just before you plan to go out on a drive. This will mess up your Navigation overall. This is a Beta release and has ‘plenty’ of bugs. Once you install it, you will get a Warning that this version of Ovi Maps is not compatible with Existing Maps dataand asks whether you want to delete the map data. If you click yes, your Map data (only Maps, not your favourite places or routes) will be deleted and if you choose not to delete the Maps, the App will exit.
If you delete the map data, you can still use the new 3.06 version App but the Route will be loaded on the fly using your data plan.
Don’t try to download the Map data using Ovi Suite (from Map server), the same warning will appear and only way to use the App is to delete the Map data, again.
New features in 3.06 version include Check in where you can check in to a place and share the location with your friends over Social networks. Apart from this, many users have already reported that the offline search experience is hugely improved.
New Drive assistance mode with live traffic flow (if you enable automatic traffic update) and will get alerts on Safety cameras and Speed limits.
Going back to stable 3.04 version
If you’d rather want to use Offline maps, you can go back to the stable 3.04 version present in the Ovi Store. You can simply delete the Ovi Maps (pre-release version) version by using Application manager.
Some latest firmware versions come preinstalled with Stable Ovi Maps app (may not be the latest stable app, though), hence if you delete 3.06 Beta App, you will automatically left with the stable Ovi maps app. If there is any latest stable App than that version, you’ll be notified of that once you open the App.
Or, you can simply delete 3.06 and download the latest version from Ovi Store.
